According to the U.S. Food Safety News, Lithuanian authorities stopped supplying 75 tons of poultry they called “unsafe” in the first quarter of 2020.

The Lithuanian National Food and Veterinary Service (VMVT) conducted more than 800 targeted inspections of imported poultry meat this quarter. Of the 19 unsafe poultry, 18 are from Poland. Recently, three batches of 25 tons of poultry products from Poland contaminated with salmonella were banned.

According to the statistics of the Lithuanian National Food and Veterinary Bureau, poultry imported from other countries into Lithuania account for about 20% of the market, most of which come from Poland, followed by Latvia. In 2019, the Lithuanian National Food and Veterinary Service banned the supply of nearly 200 tons of poultry meat contaminated with salmonella to the market.
